#Viki pass plus tv
If you do, it’s pretty much a pass (some things are subbed but there is no tv app that works right).Īnd then there are all of the illegal sites. KoreaOnDemand is great if you do not need subtitles. Some of my favorites like Chicago Typewriter and Oh My Ghostess are on there and they’re making great original shows like Kingdom that can only be watched there.
Netflix in the states and europe (I’m assuming you’re looking for english language sites with subs) has been working hard to catch up with Viki (or overtake them with their massive amount of money) and now has a lot to choose from. Also they are getting some of Drama Fever’s shows like Are you Human Too and The Best Hit so I’m excited for that (RIP DRAMAFEVER)
It has the most variety and even though it’s a little slow sometimes, Viki loves Asian dramas with a passion and you can tell. Sure, it’s a wonky app, and you have to pay to watch the most recent airing shows without commercials, but it’s a legit platform with an app so you can watch it on TV as well as your phone and pc. The best source for watching k-dramas international is. kdrama ask im in a super ranty mood these days but i waited 6 days to watch search and thats not cool viki viki viki premium answer Without subtitles, NO ONE would be using viki. It’s nuts that they put money into their apple tv, roku apps, licensing, website and marketing but cannot find money to pay people for doing the absolute most important job. The subbers deserve to be paid for their time and if they don’t, then viki needs to find people who do. This company is not a charity and should not rely on volunteers. And…it can take 3-5 days for a show to be completed (and let’s be real : if you’re in this fandom, “complete” is anything over 95%).īut the real reason I hate this is that it is unfair to the volunteers who should 100% be paid for their time. Sure we love those volunteers and of course they are amazing, but it also means the translation is often wonky or disconnected feeling since multiple people work on an episode. So the crux of Viki’s business model: sharing Asian content subtitled in multiple languages is flawed, in that Viki uses volunteers for their subtitles. I’m so grateful for this ask because it lets me rant even more! :D Originally posted by kdramaxoxo viki premium viki kdrama still the best option for now
It might be streaming competition but a lot of shows I look forward to, I’m forced to watch on illegal sites. I’m not sure if this is actually true, but it FEELS like there are less currently airing shows getting bought by Viki.

It can be frustrating to have to wait days for content you’ve paid to watch, when it’s already available on the free sites. I’m baffled by this business model honestly, but it means that less popular shows take longer to be subbed. Subs on viki are done by volunteers, sometimes slowly.(most gif people use raw files but dangit I’m lazy and Viki works great for me!) Creators: If you like to make screengrabs or gifs, Viki has a much nicer image output so your images will be prettier.Viki is getting some of the old DramaFever (RIP) shows which is nice.

If you like watching as things as they air, viki plus is worth it. Lower levels of viki access will lock you out of the most popular airing episodes or make you wait forever to watch them.I mean, obviously streaming illegally is going to be harder work. Unlike illegal streaming services you never have to worry that your viewing source is going to disappear (dramanice has had like 5 zillion different urls) and downloads no longer work on some sites depending on when they get in trouble for stuff.Works with apple tv, roku etc, so you can watch on your television which is my preferred watching method (other than lying in bed with my laptop and kitty). The viewing quality is much higher than any free streaming service so when you watch on a tv, it’s crystal clear.Includes access to all viki content including kocowa so you can also enjoy a ton of older shows as well. There are some other services but they are either not generally subbed or available in the states. True netflix is getting in on the k-drama game but the catalogue is very limited. The only legal site currently airing k-dramas, j-dramas, c-dramas, etc ad free. I literally cannot stand ads and popups.Right now in the states (where I live) there is no other legal streaming service dedicated to subbed asian dramas so the simple answer is yes, Viki Premium Plus is worth it.īut…In the last year I’ve noticed viki changing a little so let’s look at the pros and cons:
